The guards bend and crack, hair growing rapidly from every patch of visible skin, snouts elongating into rat-like form.

She starts to fall, but is caught by Taltos. She starts to feel faint, and stops talking. She starts talking about how we’ve assuredly heard about her relationship with Nicholai, and that she means he and his sons no ill will. The lady steps into the room ahead of two waiters bearing trays of champagne! We each take our glasses and the lady speaks. Cereus hears that Lady Fidatov likes to walk her hedge maze, but always alone. Cali hears a rumour that Lord Nicholai Wachter was prepared to leave his wife for Lady Fidatov. They talk about people we’ve never heard of, though there are occasional mentions of familiar names: Vargas, the Blue Water Inn, the Martikovs, Fiona. We are led into the ballroom where a number of guests are already well into the juicy gossip. The lady of the house appears, whispers “Make sure the tall one has left” to him, and then flits back inside again.

He’s a severe soldier, though obviously trained in etiquette. We’ve been told that people have already arrived at the party, and we’ll be shown in.Īt the front of the house we find many fine pavillions on the lawn and we meet the seneschal, Taltos. It is afternoon, and workers toil in the garden and loggers in the woods. The Fidatov estate, which looked like a gloomy husk in the faint moonlight, has been transformed into its past glory. My plans for running this portion of The Tempter I’ve already detailed elsewhere, and I don’t presently foresee any real changes. I will attempt to drop some clues with Fidatov’s ghost before they reach the garden, but if they insist on pushing forward, well, we’ll see what happens. Given the relative ease of the Ballroom Blitz encounter, I’m inclined to lean toward #1, but I given the HP reduction effect of the Nightwraith, having them weather the gauntlet 3 times instead of 1 is pretty punitive.

lead them a little bit using the ghost of Lady Fidatov so that they search more of the manor first. let them battle through the maze, realize they can’t get into the crypt, and battle their way back out again, only to investigate the clues and return, or 2. What that means, however, is they’re likely to try to head straight to the maze tonight. They’ve already guessed at it being in the hedge maze. Their focus seems to be on finding Lady Fidatov, because that necklace is ultimately their prize, though they do hope to find the treasure as well. The group has finished the two major fights inside the manor, but haven’t really “bitten” with regards to clues about the mystery of the loot.
